Welcome to the Wildfire Kaos Website!

The Colorado Wildfire Kaos 14U played an 11-tournament schedule in 2009. It was a terrific year of softball, but our team folded at the end of the season and our players have moved on to other teams. Please feel free to look through our photos and entries for highlights of our season.

2009 Season Highlights

March 21-22: The team kicks off the season at the USSSA Diamond Breaker. The weather is warm and sunny, something we won't see again until June! The girls put in a solid 2-2 performance with hints of good things to come.

March 29: Team fundraiser at Rubio's Fresh Mexican Grill. The girls (and parents) hand out flyers, scarf down burritos, and raise a little tournament spending money.

April 4-5: It's springtime in the Rockies, which means that the USSSA Spring Time is cancelled due to snow.

April 11: The girls brave icy winds and bitter cold to place 5th at the USSSA Jelly Bean. Even girls who swore they would never wear their field jackets are now wearing their field jackets, to which Coach Mike says, "I told you so!"

April 17: Coach Mike rips the skin off his lower leg sliding into home during an adult-league softball game. It turns out he was wearing shorts. "That's why the girls should wear pants," he explains.

April 25-26: The team places 7th in a field of 23 teams at the USSSA Blaze Invitational. Leslie pitches a no-hitter, while Bre records a perfect 1.000 on-base percentage. Girls from other teams keep asking Coach Mike what happened to his leg.

May 2-3: The team takes 1st place in the USSSA Spring Starter with a 7-0 record. Homers from Leslie, Morgan and Bre, a no-hitter from Lacey, and a great team effort all around!

May 16-17: The girls run into trouble at the USSSA Troublemaker as Kayla fractures her thumb tagging out a runner. Kayla insists on finishing the tournament and even belts a home run, but the following day her doctors take her out of the lineup and put her into a hand cast. She's out for the next two tourneys.

May 23-25: The rain postpones play repeatedly at the USSSA Memorial Day Bash, but the team shakes it off and places 7th in a field of 25 teams. Lacey throws a no-hitter, Kelley makes two impossible catches in center field, and Steph sets a 2009 team record by getting hit by three pitches in one game!

May 29: Coach Mike fractures his ankle after landing awkwardly on third base during an adult-league softball game. Doctors put him in a walking boot. On the plus side, the skin on his lower leg is growing back.

May 30: Team fundraiser at Applebee's. The girls wait tables, serve pancakes, and manage not to eat up all the profits!

May 30-31: Team sleepover at the Grazier house, featuring pizza, a water-balloon fight, movies, and playing hide-and-seek with Jakey.

June 6-7: The team finishes 3-2 at the USSSA Thunder Down Under, but takes top honors for "Best Scoring" and "Best Differential." Shen Lu and Lacey smack back-to-back homers, while Sammy Jo pitches the team to a 22-1 win, our biggest of the season.

June 28-29: Congratulations to our Triple Crown Sparkler All-Stars, Bre and Lacey.

August 8: Congratulations to our USSSA All-Star, Morgan Grazier!
